Hello All,

I wanted to introduce myself; My name is Greg and I am from the Philadelphia area.

I have always loved Z's and I'm currently on my 3rd. I have had a 280, 350, and currently a 2013 370Z. (Sports Package).

I'm hoping this site is active, I just paid this one off and I'm looking to make some mods. The first mod is a pretty simple one, I do not have the OEM factory GPS, and was looking for some ideas/suggestions. I'm looking to put a touch screen head unit in.. this may be overstepping my hello message, but if anyone has suggestions on head-units, please let me know. The feature set I'm looking for is GPS that integrates with the Android system. Front and Rear cams, with the hope of having ODB2 data displayed on front cam footage.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Greg
Buying my First Z

Hi all, I'm new to the forum as I am very soon about to buy my first Z.
My first car back in 1977 was a Datsun. A little B210. I had a fondness for that car and have really always wanted a Z, first a 280, then a 300, 350 etc. I went the way of the Toyota for many years as I really like them too. I had an 85 Celica GTS, then a 87 Supra. A few 4 door cars in between, VW and Honda. Most recently I have a 04 Celica GT that I am passing on to my daughter who gets her license next month. I have my eye on a 2010 370z touring. Finally getting that 2 seater!

Just wanted to say hello and looking forward to being part of the community.

Cheers!
New Forum Member Intro

Hello to all 370Z.Com members!!

My name is Tim. I live in north Texas. I am 'basically new' to Nissan and the 370Z.

I joined this forum, first, to hopefully learn all I can about the 370Z as well as hoping this is an active community so that I can garner the knowledge of 370Z owners.

Second, I hope to learn all the do's and don't(s) of aftermarket goodies; what's worth the money and effort or "the best bang for the buck" so to speak.

About me: For the past 10-12 years I have been a Corvette owner. I love Corvette and it will always be in my blood. However, I love all types of sports cars. When the present generation 370Z appeared, it's style caught my eye. But I never really considered it until about six-eight months ago when I seriously started considering it.

Since then, I read about them, looked at them on Nissan's website but, I have not yet driven one. I suspect I will the next time I take my daily driver for service. For most of my life, I have driven Chevy/GMC products. I presently own a Yukon, Corvette Z06 and my newest vehicle, a Nissan Altima 2.5SL.

I have dropped the GM fanboy enthusiast mode of thinking. And for reason. The BIGGEST reason: the new generation Vette Z06 will set you back $100,000 bucks, easily. I work for a living and have decided that unless I win the lottery, I have bought my last new Z06. Since I have always liked the 370Z styling, I am looking, studying, learning all I can about the 370Z. I am seriously considering getting into one.

So, without further ado, I definitely would appreciate present owners/forum members insight, knowledge and afterthought regards these great looking cars. I plan to ask questions, so please bear with me as I learn and come "up to speed" so to say and please pardon me; in advance if I ask a stupid question.

Regards,
Tim in North Texas

Poor Fuel Efficiency?

Hello All,

I recently purchased a 2012 370 w/touring and sport package and manual transmission. Prior to the Z I had a 2010 Maxima. I purchased the Z with the expectation of getting around 20mpg. The sticker lists 18-26mpg, the sticker on my Maxima listed 19-26mpg which resulted in 22.5mpg for the same basic driving routine as I do in the Z....so my natural assumption was about 20mpg for the Z. Nope, I'm getting 17.4mpg after the first 1K miles. I'm driving it easy through the suggested break in period of 1,200 miles, using only 92-93 octaine fuel, mostly shifting between 2k-3k rpm. Any thoughts of what's causing such poor fuel efficiency? Are you experiencing this too? Other than this I love the Z but if I would have known this up front I might have reconsidered the purchase. Pretty sure I can get V8 muscle at 17.4mpg. Thoughts?

My N ew '13 370Z

Traded in my 2005 350z 6-MT Touring 15 months ago for, well, a Rogue. Gave that POS back two days ago and got into a base 370Z. Black on black, 6speed. No mods yet. Love the car. Felt like putting on an old pair of comfortable shoes. Havent goosed it yet, only have 67 miles on the clock but it feels VERY VERY similar to my old 350z. Thats a good thing. This car is DEFINITELY faster, you can just feel its not even working when youre daily driving. The ride is MUCH MUCH better. Quieter, a bit softer. The interior, despite this being a base model is still much better than my old Touring. The cabin is huge!! Im 5'9', never had an issue with driver space in my 05' but the cabin is massive. My wife was sitting Indian style using her laptop, eating a salad and had two water bottles on the seat with her as Im putzing around Sanibel Island. Kinda funny to see actually. The one glaring performance feature I love is the handling. This thing grips like a gorilla. All in all, love the car.

Those who are still under warranty read this post

My question is will an under drive pulley void my warranty? I asked the dealership I bought it from and they said no. I asked the dealership near the location I live at say it will. If it messes with the timing then it will void my warranty. Has anyone had an issue with a similar situation.
Sport Pkg or not?

Has anyone driven a touring with AND without the sport pkg? I'm planning to get a rdster when they come out and am torn...my tendency is to get top of the line, but this is going to be my everyday car and it needs to also have a wife-friendly ride for longer trips, 4hrs to beach, 2hrs to mountains, occasional drive back home 12hrs...etc. I've read in more than a couple of the articles out there that unless I plan on visits to the track to stay away from the sprt pkg...which is fine I guess, but why is that...is it just because of diff btwn 18s and 19s? I'm sure the upgraded suspension contributes as well, right? The other factor is that the larger RAYS wheels look way better than the "been there, done that" 5 spokers. Sorry for stuffing so many questions here but am also concerned about the road howl the 19s are apparently notorious for...are the 18s any better? Do we know if the Roadster will have the front chin spoiler or rear deck spoiler? Thanks.

My Project Z finally completed

Well, it's been a long road and not being "lottery winning" rich, I had to get my "09" 370Z built the way I wanted it, a little bit at a a time. I tried to knock out the stuff I was physically and mechanically able to do and afford first. This included things like AP Racing 3 piston big brake kit on the front and AP racing dual piston big break kit on the rear. (wanted to make sure when I got to the point of making it FAST, I was ready to make it stop just as good). these went on with just minor issues and once installed with the included steel braided lines, the entire brake system was bled with Motul brake fluid. I must give kudos to "Motive Products" bleeding products. It makes bleeding your brakes an easy one person job. Next product to go on were the Hotkis front and rear adjustable anti-sway bars. very noticeable difference when these went on. Now it was time for a little better breathing and I installed a cold air intake and a Stillen Cat-back exhaust system. Some noticably minor gains there. From there came some aestetic add-ons including the Seibon from splitter and a Nismo look rear wing both made of carbon fiber and both installed by the body shop I use and swear by here in the Orlando, Fl. area. very professional install. Also installed the interior carbon fiber accent kit that was just enough to make it look different and give it a little flare.
now it was time to add a little external cooling to keep those oil temps in check and I installed the Stillen external oil cooler which helped drop the oil temps by about 30 degrees. For more adjustment in the rear camber and toe, I installed the SPL toe rods and camber rods with full adjustability. These work great and give plenty of adjsustment which is going to be grea with the new KW3 coil overs that got installed next. can't say enough about these and their full adjustability. the car was then cross weighted and now handles like it is on rails. I only dropped the car 1/2" but it made all of the difference in the world. Now the car stops on a dime and will go around the tightest of corners with ease. only thing left is to make it get up and go. for that, I chose to go with the Stillen supercharger and new mapping software. this was done by titan motorsports here in Orlando and they would be my only choice to every do this on my car or any car in the future. They did a perfect job and the car gets up and goes now. I have to actually be careful so I don't start eating through expensive tires too quickly. That about does it other than a few minor things here or there which I have done. I hope you had as much fun reading this as I did building it up and driving it now. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have as I would like to give back to the many people that helped me make my decisions along the way during this year and a half long project.

Rear end breaks loose going into third gear during high speed accelleration.

I have a base 370z with hotchkis anti sway bars set on the second hole. What would cause the car's backend to break loose during a very agressive accelleration.
tire size

Yes, I've used the search tool to death, as well as google
But now I'm just confused

I am putting forged COR monoblocks on my Nissan 370z 2012 roadster sport touring, which comes originally with Bridgestone potenza and 19" Rays, 19x9F and 19x10R.

I'm putting on COR rims:
20x9 front
20x11 rear

In trying to find the right tire and tire size I've gone nuts!

Prerequisite data:
1. In moving from "19 to "20 tire, I want to preserve the exact rolling diameter, which from research is between 26.5 and 26.2 on the 19" rays and BR Potenza the car comes with.
I want to preserve the size and geometry so that speedo and other factors are minimized and not impacted.
2. I also don't want to sacrifice too much comfort which can easily be done in moving to a 20" rim and the wrong tire, from a 19" rim.
3. I don't want tire mobility and steering rotation to rub or impact any structures in the wheel well.
4. I want the tire to look correct on rim so that it doesn't squish out or look tucked in, but proportionally correct to the rim.

The rep at COR for my wheels suggested these tire sizes:

245/35/20 fronts /// Either 285/30/20 *or 295/30/20 *For the rear

My problem is this (1)
The 285/30/20 by Nitto, BR, and Pirelli is only approved to "10.5 rims, not "11 rims,
The 295/30/20 looked to have better official fitment specs to a 20x11 rim.
Some wheel manufacturers even went as high as a 305 on the 11rim

----So it sounds like 295/30-20 is correct for the rear.----

However:

(2)
The front, every monoblock wheel firm on the suggested tire recommends the 255/35-20 for the 20x9 wheel on their sites, but the COR rep suggest a 245/35-20

So...
With my pre requisites, what do I buy for tires. I don't go to the track, this is more sport and comfort and aesthetics to me.

So what tire size and recommended brand?

Thank you for any help, I've learned in this forum that it pays to be specific

Thank you

2012 370z Nismo questions

I am looking at the 370z Nismo 2012 version. I have a few questions.

1- I am a big dubstep fan and am curious what type of sound system I should put in, size of sub and # of speakers. (whats a good store to get these installed/bought) (honestly my biggest question)
2- I've look online about exhausts voiding a warranty. Seems it comes down to the dealers choice. Is the Nismo's Catback exhaust worth keeping in terms of sound or should I look into another?
3- Half bra or full hood bra. I live in Colorado so the snow/rocks/whatever else is out there, would hurt the paint. My Z will be red, should I get the clear bra?
4- How would interior lights look on the speakers or perhaps running by the door? Just looking for opinion.

5- Any other cool ideas for the Z I would love to hear. please post
