GT-R on PM chassis right?

Because the way the forum description is written, it sounds like it shares the FM chassis with the Z and G's.

Motor Trend says, "Mizuno started with an all-new PM (premium-midship) chassis. Distinct from the FM (front-midship) configuration of such rear-drive Nissans as the 350Z and Infiniti G35, the PM chassis features an independent-transaxle-based all-wheel-drive system."

I heard a rumor on one of the GT-R forums that everytime a GT-R gets crashed and totaled here, a couple of Japanese engineers quickly show up at the junkyard, buy the car and take it away. Is this to prevent evidence for lawsuits? Is it to keep the car out of the hands of tuners and racers?

This came from two different guys who are trying to buy a GT-R engine. There is also a rumor that in Japan, Nissan reviews all sales of parts to determine if its for true warranty repair or maintenance and if things don't add up, like a tuners is trying to buy parts, someone blocks the sale.

This sort of stuff on top of the draconian warranty policy makes me want to get a GT-R less and less. I think I'll keep the EVO and if I run into money, buy an M3 or IS-F. Meanwhile I hear that GT-R's are not selling. Nissan needs to wake up, its not a privilege to be allowed to buy a car. Customers who can afford an expensive car will just buy a Porsche, BMW or other semi-exotic and be treated nicely. My buddy blew up his M5 tranny at an autocross. The ECU had the transmission abuse code. BMW just said, let us fix it for you sir and fixed it no question while treating him like a king and giving him a nice loaner.

Nissan wake up, well heeled customers won't put up with this shit, especially in a bad economy. The money you save by not having a men in black squad could be used to provide better customer service and fixing your transmission issues with stronger parts, not a performance limiting reflash of the ECU.

Wait a second... it has FOUR data recorders? Did I count that right? Are they interested in data recorded from customers cars THAT MUCH?!? What?... they didn't do this kind of research with their own cars? I don't even think F1 cars have that many recorders. Hmmmm...

Note this line: "...is capable of recording the vehicle's operating conditions and monitoring component replacement or reprogramming and may be used to perform and administer warranty repairs." Administer warranty repairs or administer the cancellation of such a warranty if one ever really existed?

Some more....

"The maximum RPM for initial start with VDC ON has been increased..." -- Translation: "C'mon guys... keep that VDC ON!!" Haha... why even offer this "VCD" function then? Oh yeah.... you might get stuck in mud or snow!

"Maximum RPM at launch with VDC OFF (which should only be used when stuck in snow or mud) has been decreased, and acceleration with VDC OFF will be moderated." -- Well that's a relief... if we smoke the tires, not only will that become increasingly difficult as the RPM's will be closely limited BUT we will know about it at your next warranty burning party AKA: scheduled maintenence.

"The GT-R Owner's Manual expressly warns against driving with the VDC OFF..."

"Repairs for damage caused by driving with VDC OFF are expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan GT-R New Car Limited Warranty."

"...you are reminded to drive with VDC ON at all times."

"...there is no reason to be driving with VDC OFF."

And this was all in ONE paragraph. Think they're trying to get a point across? It goes on and on. I'm surprised they don't just install some sort of "vehicle kill device" when the vehicle is used in any way that "they" don't approve of.

When I pay over $70,000 for a car... who's car is it again??

Seriously, I think Nissan really blew it on how customers are treated in the whole GT-R buying process. Its not like a privalge to buy one of these cars, GT-R customers are customers and have choices.

Chevy stands behind the Z06 even if it breaks at a track day. They publicaly annouced it. It is so dumb to give the customer a choice to void the warranty using a feature that is designed into the car that every publication uses to obtain test results.

Nissan needs to improve the transmission or claim slower times. They also need to step up responsibitly for warranty. Customers won't kiss Nissans ass here like in Japan, they will simply buy a Z06, ZR-1, Porshe or other car
