2014 370Z clutch noise, Whats the Deal?

As a recent new owner of a 370Z I have a burning question that i believe you all could answer regarding clutch noise. I have been doing some research and it seems that many owners are having similar noises involved with shifting their cars from 1st to 2nd gear. I purchased this car with about 35 miles on it and was surprised to hear this sound when driving off the lot.

I only hear the sound on first to second when depressing the clutch. Three to for distinct clunk sound that are more intense with the more revs at the time of the gear change. If this is a common occurrence please let me know and I can sleep a bit easier.

Disclaimer: this is not my video, just one of the only videos online that I could find with the same noise I am experiencing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8bkEyvZGAc

Billet oil pump gears

I saw that an ex Comptech guy also designer/engineer for AM Performance has their old VQ billet oil pump gears available again!
A great alternative to the unavailable powdered metal Nismo gear set and they "drop right in"...

Anyone other than Jim Woolf and Speed WC racers use these?

Throttle lag?

I've had my 370Z for a good 2k miles now and I've noticed a slight lag in throttle response. I'm wondering if this is common...? It's not a long lag, but it makes it rather difficult starting on a steep incline without either more roll-back than I like or too much clutch riding. Could this also be an effect of the ultra-heavy clutch/dual flywheel assembly? My previous car was a highly tuned turbo with a Clutchmaster stage 3 clutch and it had zero throttle lag with near instant engagement and it was easier to drive than this. Any suggestions?

I thought electronic throttle was supposed to give better, quicker input; but quite frankly I prefer the good old fashioned cable.

Jon

hand clutch or equivalent

I would like to purchase Nismo edition 370Z which only comes in a manual transmission. I actually would prefer a manual over automatic, but my left knee/leg is fairly useless. Is it even possible to configure a foot clutch for hand use? Are there any other alternatives for this? If not, I will forego the Nismo and look for an automatic. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bubbling Of Power Steering Fluid

I have a 2010 370Z NISMO with 25,000 miles on it. I have noticed a problem with the car trying to steer me instead of me trying to steer the car. I have had the frontend aligned and wheels balanced and it still continues. I have notice that the fluid in the power steering reservoir is bubbling furiously. Is this normal? Could this be causing my steering problem? Any ideas or suggestions? Take a look at this video http://youtu.be/4NxWRfnRzFg

Who has overheated, gone into limp mode or run high oil temperatures?

I have a lot of the aftermarkets ear and sometimes Nissan's. I can help push development of performance parts to counter the issues.

Who has experienced these things, especially oil temps over 260 degrees? What were the conditions related to the high temps? Post them here in this thread.

Nissan Motorsport Oil Cooler

So just some fyi for people like me who got a 370 and had oil problems. It took a total of 2 months for Nissan to get me my oil cooler and installed, and oil change, FOR FREE. Had to go through Nissan North America. I had oil temps in the high 240's sittin in traffic. Cruising to work at 2 p.m. at 75-80 oil was at 225-235 with an ambient temp of 90's. I ran my car over lake hemet into palm springs. Hemet was 102 that day and started at base of hill with a 235, within a minute of running I hit 250. Backed out of it and it took forever for the car to cool. Went down into palm springs where it was 113. Turned right back around and gripped and rippped it. Withing a minute temp shot from 230 to 258. So I knew the car's problem was excavating heat. After dealing with Nissan Consumer Affairs on this they installed the cooler today and I test drove it. Honestly can say that I ran 90% on my car on mountain driving and the cooler held up really well. Temp outside was 93 so it was slightly cooler than the june weather I experienced, but still good to test in. The car never got above 225. After the mountain peaked and was on somewhat level driving grounds, it only took about 2 minutes of 60ish in 6th gear to cool the car down to about 185. It stayed there. Coming back from palm springs was fun because it is more quicker wide open throttle type of driving mid to high 3rd gear most of the way. Again 225 and that was it. Temp was 105 during the run. All of my cooler run was done with the a/c on because I wanted to see how it would do with the engine pullin the air conditioning and a full tank of gas. The bridgestones handled really well.
370Z oil temp issues, worse than I thought!

In testing the 370Z on the dyno, its becoming apparent that the 370Z is going to have issues with oil temperature. With simple dyno testing which only involves wide open throttle for a few seconds, the oil temperature rises to the 260 degree range. In bumper to bumper traffic and even in normal semi brisk driving in the mountains, the temp soars into this range. Note that this isn't even fast driving, just normal driving.

In my experience in motorsports, bearing load carrying capacity starts to get affected negatively when oil temps get above 260 degrees. The 370Z seems to run in the range frequently which amazes me. Now when putting around on the street you are not likely to hurt stuff but if you do the slightest bit of extended wide open throttle driving, things might start to get seriously bad.

I now feel that an oil cooler is mandatory if you do any sort of track day or drive hard in general. Even sporting type driving will probably put the temperature up high. I think frequent oil change intervals using a high quality synthetic oil is going to be mandatory as well, even for causal use.

I have a few theories on why the oil temp is so high on this engine which I will probably do an article on in the magazine section in a few days.

Automatic vs. Stick

I am about to purchase a 370z but I want to know something before going to Nissan. I am not the best shifter in stick and I want to know if the synchro rev match will really made it easier for me to drive stick and avoid burnt clutch and could I leave on the synchro rev mode until I am a better shifter?
Oil Cooler and Diff Cooler

Hey guys, I am in the works for buying my first Z. All of this talk about the oil temp. problems is giving me second thoughts though...If Nissan does not ameliorate this problem, what are we to do? Install our own? Here's another question too. I usually drive the backroads of the Santa Monica Mountains as if they were a track; do you think this type of driving warrants an oil and diff cooler? If it doesn't, would installing the cooling systems make the oil too cold and somehow hurt the engine just as if it was overheating?

clutch chatter

anyone experiencing a little clutch chatter when engaging 1st from a stop? I had an 06 mustang with a dual friction that did this, but it never did it when I had the stock single disc. and also it doesn't start chattering until the car is nice and warmed up, just curious if anyone else is having this. and if you engage at higher rpm, say 1200-1500, it doesn't do it even when its warmed up like I described, but I hate to ride the clutch like that. any comments or suggestions?

Synchrorev blips

Im sure any of you with the manual have experienced the high rev blips you get when you shift into neutral to "coast" at higher speeds. The revs seem to stay high and slowly decrease as your speed decreases, I assume to stay "ready" for action while your still moving at a good pace. I find the neutral shift blip to someimes a bit much for the situation and maybe a bit of an annoyance.

What I have discovered though is that this phenomenon only occurs if you have any pressure on the clutch at all. So many of us are exerting a small pressure on the clutch even though we are out or gear and not shifting. If you completely remove your foot from the clutch when you put it in neutral, I have not seen it blip, it just goes to less than 1K rpm.

Hope this helps.

A short shifter = tranny failure??

There's been some discussion around some forums from people who are very tenative to install a short shifter kit in their 370z for fear of transmission failure.
3rd to 4th power cut?

So I've noticed a funky power cut when I'm WOT in 3rd and shift into 4th. The power cuts for a bit and the loss of traction light blinks. Then after a second it picks back up. This happens with the traction control engaged. I haven't tried it with it turned off to compare.
