I think it would be beneficial to start (and perhaps sticky) a thread on the basics of Z technology and tuning. A thread that could be constantly updated as new parts for the 370Z are developed and tested. A thread which would define the differences between the current 370Z platform vs. the 350Z. I know we have technical threads that individually discuss the different areas of interest but not one that discusses the overall process from a beginners standpoint.

We all know that "tuning" is a step in the direction of obtaining more power, better performance and perhaps efficiency gains. But how much do we really know about the process itself? I consider myself to be somewhat automotive savvy having taken auto shop in high school, wrenched on my own vehicles over the years with replacement parts and I generally know the basic operation of an internal combustion chamber but I will admit that I am a bit green when it comes to the actual process of tuning a car for added performance and all that entails.

So although there are many very knowledgable people here and on other forums, who else like myself would like to see this type of thread? Call it "tuning 101" if you wish. I would love to learn the basic process from the start along with the "why" for each part added and seeing the actual numbers due to tuning these parts. Kind of a real world view at what is being developed and how it relates to my 370Z and others like it. You could go so far as to discuss how individual setups might benefit individual drivers looking for different reasons to mod their rides. I.E. one person wants to get better handling in turns for track days while another wants better performance in straight line runs, etc.  Basically a beginners class so that when I read some of the tech threads here, the info doesn't just fly right over my head.

Anyway, what do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

Michael,

I think its a good idea.  People should also ask Sarah techical questions via her tech q&a column.  I am wondering where in the forum we can put this thread?
